A MOTORCYCLIST who died after a three-vehicle collision left him trapped beneath a car has been named as Shaun May, writes Kavitha Siva.
The 25-year-old lived in a one-bedroom flat in Balmoral Court in Regent's Park Road about 200 metres from where the accident happened.
He had been riding his green Kawasaki bike northbound when the crash happened at the junction with Mark Close on Saturday at 12.10pm.
Another man in his 20s, who had been riding a red, white and blue Honda motorbike, and the woman driver of a white Ford Escort, were taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
Firefighters from St Mary's and Redbridge attended the scene to clear the wreckage.
Pensioner Jean Meacher, 84, heard the accident which happened outside her home: "I heard a tremendous crash and when I looked out I saw the car had gone into my wall. I didn't really know what to think but I soon realised there had been a bad accident."
Charlotte Horstall saw the crash happening from her front room window. She said: "It's just so unbelievable. You don't think anything like this could happen outside your own front door.
"It's a real tragedy."
Kathleen and Matthew Hammond went out for the morning and returned to find their road cordoned off by police.
Mrs Hammond said: "We've known several accidents to happen here. I remember around three years ago when a car landed on the road on its roof after an accident. We've had a couple of really bad ones and nobody seems to do anything about it."
Jerry and Heather Evans said speed-calming measures would be beneficial to the area.
Alison and Roy Kimber have lived in the area for the past 16 years. Mr Kimber said: "This area is an accident blackspot and we've known around five or six incidents to happen here."
Andy Timms, acting inspector with the road death investigation team, said: "We have spoken to several witnesses but we need anyone who heard or saw anything at the time of the incident to come forward."
Anyone with information should call the Road Death Investigation Team at Lyndhurst, who have codenamed their investigation Operation Skipper, on 0845 045 4545.
