ACES 36 Abbotts Ann 37
This game was so close from start to finish, and played in a tremendous spirit.
It was quite cagey during the first quarter but after that both teams came into their own. Abbotts Ann's shooting partnership of GS Alison Needham and GA Jo Coles were in fine form, which put extra pressure on the ACES defence, but GK Liz Smith rose to the challenge, and with GS Jen Best finishing off the moves with some fine shots, there was no way anyone could predict the final outcome - but Abbotts Ann managed to snatch the glory.
AD Aspinal 18 Two Step third 25
What a strange game this was for the neturals.
Two Step exploded onto court and were five goals up within minutes, starting at the back where GD Donna Stickley effectively closed down the shooting circle, and with WA Toni Ayers running her socks off they dominated everything. In the second and third quarters ADA levelled the game with GD Ruth Griffiths intercepting regularly and GA Liz Harwood finishing off with her accurate shooting. But the last quarter saw Two Step regain their lead to run out winners.
Lloyds TSB 21 SAS I 26
TSB dominated early on, especially GA Jo Mussel, who had a fantastic game making some telling passes to her shooter.
But SAS played some lovely netball, their passing was faultless and the positioning of every player was textbook stuff. GK Sue Waites stopped the supply with fast-thinking interceptions, then moved the ball up the court for the dangerous GA Anna Bowman to finish the play off perfectly.
Lloyds' C Lynne Cummins kept her girls going but SAS pulled off a fine comeback.
