AFC Newbury boss Guy Whittingham reckons the Sydenhams Wessex League have a strong chance of getting all three of their surviving clubs into Monday's FA Vase last-16 draw.

The Berkshire club are the only one of the trio blessed with home advantage - against Northern Counties East Premier Division outfit Thackley tomorrow.

But holders Winchester City - away to Bridgwater - have been installed by bet365 as 9/2 favourites to retain the trophy, while Whittingham believes 14/1 tips Lymington & New Milton are in fine fettle for their trek to Billingham Town - despite Tuesday's 2-1 Wessex League upset at AFC Totton.

The former Pompey goal ace predicted: "Winchester will go a long way again and, having spoken to Tavvy (coach Dave Taviner), Lymington are making a real weekend of it up at Billingham and he'll have them well organised.

"I know they lost at Totton, but it's always dodgy to play in midweek before a big cup game. Even for professional players it's hard to get Saturday's game out of your mind and you don't want to get injured."

Having spent much of the season looking for a link player up front, Whittingham has finally found one in new signing Shane Small-King from Burnham, who is eligible to play tomorrow.

He said: "The lads have known all season what I was looking for and it was one of the players, Danny Mattingley, who let me know about Shane. He's short and stocky and holds the ball up well."

Anthony Alleyne could be back in the reckoning having taking a painful bang on the side, but Mattingley is doubtful with an ankle problem.

While Newbury - priced 12/1 for the Vase - sit a healthy fourth in the Wessex, 80/1 shots Thackley are stuck in the bottom half of their league.

Whittingham is taking nothing for granted, however.

"We've had them watched a couple of times and they're well organised," he said. "They've only conceded 19 goals and they've got a front two that need watching."

Billingham are quoted at 33/1 by bet365, while Bridgwater are 80/1.
