A TOUCH of Brummie class will come to Basingstoke with an outstanding performance by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Young Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo will lead the night's proceedings with Haydn's Symphony No 2, which the composer wrote for a fashionable Parisian concert society.
The programme includes Tchaikovsky's elegant and graceful set of variations, written as relaxation after the emotional outburst of the symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini, along with Sibelius' Fifth Symphony.
Among the musicians will be Finnish cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson, who will play a Carl Giuseppe Testore cello, made in Milan in 1718 and loaned to him by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
Since winning the 1986 Eurovision Young Musician of the Year Competition, Jan-Eric has performed as a soloist with orchestras all over the world.
He won the 1993 Leonard Rose International Cello Competition at the University of Maryland, in the United States, and won the 1994 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.
The concert takes place on Wednesday, February 9, with tickets priced from £13.50 to £29.50.
