THREE Hampshire bowlers and one from the Isle of Wight propelled England towards a glorious men's and ladies' under-25 double in the British Isles International Series in Scotland.
Matthew Marchant and Steve Robertson showed inspired form as the men captured their crown for the first time since 2000 in Auchinleck while Claire Spreadbury and Isle of Wight skip Lucy Beere starred when the ladies retained their trophy at Aberdeen.
The excellent common denominator among the four of them was that they won all their matches, Marchant and Robertson making a sensational contribution to England's opening victory against the Scots.
The Victory twosome, playing at lead and two respectively, destroyed the opposition with such consistent accuracy that their rink chalked up a 40-3 result.
It was just as well that the Hampshire duo were in peak form as England captain Craig Docherty (Cumbria), at number three, was feeling unwell and was later diagnosed with chicken pox and was replaced by Luke Nunn.
However, so deadly were the Marchant/Robertson deliveries that Docherty and skip Paul Mosley (Thornaby, Middlesbrough) had precious little to do in that opening romp.
Thanks mainly to the Mosley monster scoreline, England - runners-up to Wales last year at Palmer-ston - triumphed 101-64, a score which gave the Three Lions all the confidence they needed to regain the title that had been Scotland's in 2001-3.
James Chestney of Norfolk (17-16) and Devon's Jamie Webber (23-18) supported Mosley in the four-rink match.
In the 88-70 win against Ireland, Mosley's men returned a 27-16 card bettered only by the 34-13 verdict of Chestney.
Chestney also topped the scorechart in the 93-61 eclipse of Wales but Marchant and Robertson again turned on the magic as Mosley chipped in with a 22-13 victory.
Webber (22-17) gave backing as well while Shaun McCaughan, the Kent skip who had lost his first two games, stopped the rot with an 18-18 draw.
England selector and Victory stalwart Derek Collins said: "It was a fine team performance but I feel Paul Mosley's rink with Matthew and Steve deserve special mention, because to win 40-3 at international level against the Scots on their own patch is a truly outstanding performance.
"Let's hope the seniors can perform as well in their series at Belfast in March!"
England finished with a shots difference of +90, 57 of which were contributed by Marchant, Robert-son and co.
It was a fine way for Robertson to finish his under-25 career - he is over the age limit next winter - but Marchant is looking forward to the 2006 series as he is in line to captain the side in his junior international swansong.
Ireland, the regular whipping boys, had their magic moment when shocking 2004 champions Wales 80-79 - a result that meant they avoided the wooden spoon for once.
Final points: England 6, Scotland 4, Ireland 2, Wales 0.
