Alan Knight has confirmed that he will be leaving Pompey at the end of the season - 27 years after making his debut for his only club.

Knight, 42, pictured left, made 683 appearances for Pompey and has been the club's goalkeeping coach for the last five years.

Known as 'The Legend' during a Pompey goalkeeping career that spanned four decades, Knight will signal the end of an era when he leaves Fratton Park for the last time in May.

He said: "I've been here for 30 years this summer and have to look to my future. I've had things put to me which I've thought about and there's a chance to move to America to coach there, as well as a couple of other offers outside football.

"I intend to make a statement when things are tied up, which will hopefully be in the next few days. It's not been easy making the decision but I don't want to look back and think I should have done things I haven't.

"Pompey have been my life since I was 14 and my heart will always be there."

Meanwhile, Pompey striker Lomana LuaLua has been charged by the Football Association with improper conduct for his reaction to being sent off for headbutting Blackburn captain Andy Todd on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has already been given a three-match ban and the case will be dealt with at an FA disciplinary hearing on Tuesday 25 January.

It is not the striker's first brush with the FA over disciplinary matters.

Last month he was charged with abusive behaviour over alleged gestures towards the crowd at Middlesbrough in October.
