HUNDREDS of pencils, pens, rubbers and exercise books have been collected at one Southampton school destined for the child victims of the tsunami disaster.
All year groups at Oaklands Community School have brought in stationery to be distributed among schoolchildren living in some of the worst hit areas of Sri Lanka.
They were spurred into action by 27-year-old Giles Jacobson, a former maths teacher at the school, who left last year to teach in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Once he receives the donated goods he will travel to the south of the country and hand out the stationery to pupils who have lost everything.
Head of citizenship at Oaklands Graham Cole said: "It has just been fantastic. The kids have been bringing in items every day.
"Pupils at Fairisle Junior School have also been helping out by organising collections of stationery."
All the goods are due to be sent out from the 750-pupil school within the next few days.
