Newcastle boss Rob Andrew paid tribute to Jonny Wilkinson's little-known brother Mark following the Falcons' 25-17 victory over Newport-Gwent that put his side through to the last eight of the Heineken Cup for the first time.

Former Australia full-back Matt Burke marked his surprise return from injury with the match-winning try that earned the Falcons a trip to France for the quarter-finals in April.

Burke, who passed a late fitness test on his injured knee, also kicked four goals in a man-of-the-match display but it was the fly-half performance of the 27-year-old Wilkinson that drew the praise of director of rugby Andrew.

Wilkinson recovered from a calf injury to don for the first time this season the number 10 jersey made famous by his younger brother and come up with an accomplished display.

"For Mark to step at ten in a game of this intensity and to play as well as he did was just outstanding," said Andrew.

"He's got a lot of good skills. Pace-wise, perhaps he isn't in the same league as some of our other backs but he understands how we play and he's got good hands and good feet.

"All we asked him to do was try and allow the rest of the team to function and I thought he did that brilliantly."
