THE International sailing Federation has denied reports that it is to move out of Southampton.

There had been fears that the Town Quay based organisation, which manages sailing throughout the world, could move to Monaco, France.

Already, several sporting headquarters have turned their backs on Britain, lured by cash grants, tax concessions and other perks.

The International Cricket Council is preparing to leave London for Dubai and the International Badminton Federation is heading for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Even the International Rugby Board has moved from Bristol to Dublin, Ireland.

It is feared the exodus could damage the UK's bid for the 2012 Olympics.

But sailing bosses have pledged not to quit the south coast "home of ocean sailing" - for at least the next four years.

Director of communications, Louisa Smith, said: "About three years ago we were approached to go to Monaco and at that time decided against it.

"A lot of international sporting federations are always being approached by different countries, but we have absolutely no intention of moving in the immediate future."

She added: "I can't comment longer term"

The ISAF, which has 114 member nations has been based in Ariadne House, Town Quay, since 1997.
