TEST Valley parking attendants who pound the streets day after day have been awarded a special golden trainer as part of a fitness campaign by the borough council.
The Fit4work Group looks at ways of giving staff access and opportunities to a healthy life-style, and the Golden Trainer Award is one way of promoting this.
After recent publicity about walking 10,000 steps per day to maintain good health, staff at Test Valley were encouraged to buy pedometers to measure how far they walked.
This led to setting up the Golden Trainer Award to see which service had the most active walking staff.
Staff were asked to record the amount of steps they took during their normal working day in November. Not surprisingly the parking attendants clocked up the largest number of steps with a huge total of 358,737 steps taken during the month.
