Louisa grabs glory
Winchester City Penguins ended 2004 with a national champion in their midst. At the British National Biathlon Championships held recently in Enfield, Louisa Warwick triumphed as the 12-year-old national winner.
A team of 17 competitors from Penguins had qualified for these events. In the girls C group (age 13/14) Lorna Russell, Eleanor Selby and Grace Terry collected team bronze medals with Lorna being placed seventh individually.
Competing with Louisa in the Group D class were Fenella Langridge and Jessica Pike.
The Men's team, comprising Malcolm Harling, Richard Pike and Glenn Weavind finished fourth, just points outside the bronze medal position.
Other national qualifiers were Sue Davies, Pip Varley, Sean Davies, Tom Varley, Ellie Jones, Imogen Hutchings and Lauren Phillips.
Following their successes Louisa Warwick, together with Lorna Russell, Sean Davies and Tom Varley, have been selected for the Southern Development Squad which is part of the World Start and Potential Biathlon Programme.
