KEN Marsh's hopes of reaching the national stages of the English Indoor BA over-60 singles' championship were dashed in the area final.
Playing at Victory, the Banister Park skip lost 21-11 after trailing 17-4 to Dennis Shipp of Five Rivers, who now plays in the last 32 at Nottingham on February 4-6.
Shipp's last appearance in the national finals was for Wiltshire when they won the Liberty Trophy in 1996 and before that he reached the 1991 fours semi-finals in 1991.
At the same Victory venue, Hampshire Liberty Trophy bowler Michael Hutley (East Dorset) fell 9-4 8-3 to Ben Paulley (Dolphin, Poole) in the area final of the under-25 singles - at Nottingham on that first weekend in February.
Marsh, however, has not had all his eggs in one basket as he also qualified for the over-50 triples area showdown alongside Cliff Higgins and John Joslin against Barry Littlewood, Steve Henry and Denny Graydon (Atherley) and is in the pairs quarter-finals.
Banister Park are also involved in the over-60 pairs. Bob Fawcett and Joslin face John Ash and Andy Ross (Longmeadow) at Victory on Sunday.
Ross's prospects of repeating his 1984 English singles championship triumph were shattered in a 21-16 defeat by Clive Bunford (Bournemouth) in the area quarter-final.
Quarter-final draws, singles: Chris Martin (East Dorset) v Adam Tidby (East Dorset), Martyn Sekjer (East Dorset) v Graham Standley (Longmeadow), Peter Ward (East Dorset) v Mike Beales (Bournemouth), Clive Bunford (Bournemouth) v Andy Ross (Longmeadow).
Pairs: Barry Bendall (Banister Park) v Clive Bunford, Mark Hammond (Banister Park) v Adam Tidby, Kevin Cousins (East Dorset) v Ken Marsh, Mike Beales v Graham Standley.
Triples: Steve Whitehead (Banister Park) v Chris Martin, Terry Chivers (East Dorset) v Brian Shepherd (Dolphin), Chris Daniels (Bournemouth) v Mick Barrett (Atherley), Julian Haines (East Dorset) v Ron Porter (Dolphin).
Fours: Chris Daniels v Mark Hammond, Barry Bendall v Dennis Shipp, Graham Standley v Julian Haines, Pete Lawson (Atherley) v Dean Morgan (East Dorset).
Ties to be played by Sunday, January 23.
