VOCALIST Gwyneth Herbert, a young woman destined for stardom, is set to make her first appearance at The Concorde Club's International Jazz Night this month.
The Eastleigh club has been a starting block for many of the UK's new generation of top jazz performers, including Jamie Cullum, Claire Teal and Stacey Kent, to name but three - and Gwyneth is no exception.
In just six months, she has gone from working as a waitress in a Wimbledon bistro to being the opening act at the prestigious 2004 London Jazz Festival.
Gwyneth is no stranger to the South. She and her passion for music grew up in villages in Hampshire and Surrey - playing the piano and penning the lyrics to her first song at the age of just five - and she knew she always wanted to be a singer.
Signed by Universal, Herbert's first major label album, Bittersweet and Blue, was recorded last summer.
A combination of original compositions and classic covers such as Fever and Every Time We Say Goodbye, the album demonstrates her natural ability to sing songs as though they have been uniquely crafted for her.
Gwyneth's appearance at The Concorde Club includes a number of firsts. She will be debuting not only her new line-up - featuring Mark Hodgson on double bass and Gareth Williams on piano and guitar - and new material, but also the show she is taking to New York for a two-week run at the famous Algonquin Hotel. The venue launched many careers in the US, including "Old Blue Eyes" himself.
Tickets for Gwyneth Herbert on Wednesday, January 26, are available to Concorde Club members (£12) and non-members (£14).
