YOUNGSTERS will be holding their tongues later this month to help fund a new cancer support centre in Southampton.

Schools across Hampshire will be taking part in the Big Hush sponsored silence, organised by Macmillan Cancer Relief.

All proceeds from local events will go to the charity's South Hampshire Appeal to fund a specialist cancer information centre currently under construction at Southampton General Hospital.

Backed by the Daily Echo, the £1m appeal has already hit the halfway mark and building work is well under way.

The Big Hush on Friday January 28 will involve local schoolchildren remaining silent for as long as possible.

Local schools and groups already signed up for the challenge include Upham Primary School, Busybees Childcare, Sherborne House School, 1st Shedfield Brownies, 1st Netley Marsh Guides and 12th Eastleigh Scout Group.
