Sir.-On Friday, December 17, I was driving home from work at about 8.45pm to 9pm, and approached the roundabout near Basingstoke Leisure Park.
Just before the crossing, by the fire station, I saw something on the opposite side of the road. As I got nearer, I saw it was a cat, but as it was still moving I slowed and stopped my car.
The approaching car swerved to miss it, and the next car stopped. Just as I was about to get out and pick the cat up an impatient driver could not wait and callously drove over its head, so instead of being able to help an injured cat, all I could do was pick it up and lay it on the grass verge.
I hope the callous driver of the car reads this and hangs their head in shame at their impatience. Surely they could have waited for a couple of minutes for me to save an injured animal.
How would they feel if it happened to one of their family? We are a nation of animal-lovers and pets are part of our family.
