Sir.-I recently read the Liberal Democrats' Brighton Hill Focus and feel I must write one last letter on the subject of the Brighton Hill Roundabout.
It would seem that the county council has ignored the public's pleas for a long-term solution to the problem.
Money earmarked for reducing congestion has been diverted and we are now left with a stop-gap plan, which has potential for creating new problems in areas surrounding the roundabout.
The public have written expressing these fears but it would appear that the county council does not agree.
So be it, then - bring on the chaos in the form of rat-running on the Berg Estate, extra volumes of traffic along Winchester Road and further frustrations along Brighton Way when the bus lane is completely empty. But do not expect the road users of Basingstoke to have any faith in a county council which ignores their local needs in favour of wider areas.
Common sense has, indeed, gone out of the window!
-Mrs K M Cook, Britten Road, Brighton Hill, Basingstoke.
