CAROL singing outside ASDA: Was most enjoyable on December 22.

The Salvation Army Band began playing at 7.30pm, and people from Gershwin Road Baptist Church were joined by members of the Church of Christ the King and other guests.

The minister of the Baptist Church announced the carols and all present sang with great enthusiasm. Thanks to the musicians for leading us so well.

The first carol chosen was It Came Upon a Midnight Clear and this was followed by other old favourites including In the Bleak Midwinter, Silent Night and, finally, O Little Town of Bethlehem.

The carols lasted for an hour and then people were ready to enjoy mince pies and coffee at the Church of Christ the King. It was good to see people coming together in friendship at Christmas time.

CHRISTINGLE service: Was well attended at Christ the King church on Christmas Eve.

The church was full of children and a collection was made for The Children's Society.

We remembered children who have little comfort or warmth in their lives. Some have experienced ill treatment and all need our support.

The service included stories and carols.

The first story told of Craig and stressed how frightening it can be for a child to be bullied at school.

At the end of the service, Christingles were handed around the church. An orange represented the world, the red ribbon God, and four sweets represented the fruits of the earth and the seasons.

The central candle was lit to encourage everyone to shine like a light in darkness.

The Church of Christ the King was looking beautiful on Christmas Day.

A lovely seasonal flower arrangement, posies in red and white and the fine Christmas tree gave a truly festive air.
