HEARTLESS raiders are scavenging through the bins in a bid to steal valuable goods from an Eastleigh charity shop.
Val Thomas, volunteer manager of Save the Children in Eastleigh High Street, said scavengers empty the bin at least twice a week in the hope of finding something they could sell on.
"People seem to come at night to look through it thinking there might be something of value, but everything we throw out is damaged and can't be sold."
The bin is used to throw away all the damaged toys, books, and general household items that are donated to the shop but cannot be sold.
These can often include glass objects, which when tipped out can leave the shop volunteer workers with a dangerous clean-up job, and it also causes problems with the weekly rubbish collection.
"It makes me so angry and upset because we are all volunteers who have given up our time to work here and at the moment we are extremely busy with the Asian earthquake appeal," said Mrs Thomas.
