PRESSURE is growing on Winchester City Council to reveal more about its dealings with a bankrupt charity.
The Winchester Alliance for Mental Health went bust, owing the authority £350,000, as revealed by the Daily Echo last month.
At a meeting of full council, Labour leader, Patrick Davies called for more information to be made public at a meeting of the full council.
He said: "Do we not have a duty to the people we represent to say exactly what has gone on?"
He added that if the authority had nothing to hide, then it should come clean over the truth.
Council leader Sheila Campbell, said the paperwork could not be released at the moment.
She added that such a move would require the permission of the council and the charity. Conservative councillor, George Hollingbery, said Councillor Campbell should seek the necessary approval to make the documents public.
The council has already referred the matter to its external auditor, who is studying the books. Mrs Campbell stated before the meeting that once the auditor finished its work, the findings would be made public.
The council could eventually be forced to wipe out debts of £350,000 owed by the alliance which ran the Bird in Hand activity centre in Parchment Street. It closed last month when the charity's financial problems became public.
