ROMSEY'S annual Boxing Day Classic Car and Bike Meet was a classic case of "It'll be all right on the day."

Organisers Steve Biddlecombe and Al Piekaar had a few headaches to overcome before the event, which was originally scheduled to have taken place in the town' Aldi (former Waitrose) car park.

Because only half the car park was available, they had to make a late switch to the Crosfield Hall car park and it turned out to be a success, with glorious sunshine and bright blue sky providing the best weather in the event's three-year history.

There were more vehicles than before and the wide variety was one of the main talking points, said Steve.

On the car front, there was everything from English-made Rileys, MGs,. Bentleys, Morris Travellers, E-type Jaguars and a rare Zodiac Farnham estate to American-made Buicks, Cadillacs, Corvettes, Edsels, Continentals and a Ford Victoria.

Bike exhibits included a host of classic speedway machines parked alongside Velocettes, Tritons, Nortons, Harley Davidsons and an eye-catching BSA Rocket Gold Star.

And on a lighter note, Mr Biddlecombe recalled: "The police arrived and asked 'What's going on here?' but were refused entry as their BMW was not pre-1973.

"But, in the true Christmas spirit, the officer merrily pointed out that he was!"

The organisers were so grateful for the help they received from Test Valley Borough Council that they decided the £155, which was collected on the day, should go to the Mayor's charities.
