A HAMPSHIRE couple trekked 270 miles in the wind and rain to help local cancer sufferers.
David and Rene Pilbeam, from Totton, spent three weeks walking the Pennine Way, stopping off at bed and breakfasts en route. Walking at least 15 miles a day, the trek took them from the Peak District National Park through the Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, the Cheviots and into the Scottish borders.
The couple raised £1,305 for Wessex Cancer Trust's Jane Scarth House, a facility in Romsey which provides emotional support for anyone affected by cancer.
A spokesman for the charity said: "We thank David and Rene for all their hard work and support and appreciate this wonderful donation raised from this amazing feat."
