EX-SMOKERS who have packed in the habit gathered at The ARK centre at Basingstoke hospital to celebrate their success and to prove to others that they can do it as well.
Six people who had previously attended an NHS quit smoking group met up this month to show off special silver certificates - handed to them as they had quit cigarettes for at least four weeks.
Janet Marshall, an NHS quit smoking advisor, said: "Giving up smoking can be a difficult business, especially if you are doing it alone.
"This group has proved that working together to support one another can really make a difference."
The NHS clinics, which are provided free of charge, can offer smokers help and support, as well as medication on prescription.
Various daytime, teatime and evening clinics have been arranged for the new year in a number of areas, including Brighton Hill, Tadley, Basingstoke town centre and Carnival Hall, Fairfields.
