ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA(12): The hugely-successful stage musical fails to hit quite as many high notes in this big-screen version.

BAD SANTA (15): Every year a couple of criminals dress up as Santa and his little helper to get work at a shop, only to use their insider knowledge to break into its safe. But one year a little boy helps them see the error of their ways.

BLADE TRINITY (15):Third in the series of vampire/human hybrid films. This one sees Blade & Co battling Dracula.

BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON (15): Rehash of the first movie about the big-knickered singleton which should nevertheless please fans.

CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS (PG): Having had enough of how commercial Christmas has become, Luther Krank decides to skip the holiday and go on a vacation with his wife instead. But when his daughter decides at the last minute to come home he must put together a holiday celebration.

ELLA ENCHANTED: Family film about a princess who is under a spell to be constantly obedient - a fact she tries to conceal from her mean stepsisters.

FIVE CHILDREN AND IT (U): Based on the story by E Nesbit, a group of children discover a fairy who grants them a wish a day but deliberately misinterprets what they ask for, causing chaos.

THE FORGOTTEN (12A): A grieving woman who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her son is horrified when everyone around her begins to tell her that he never existed.

THE GRUDGE (15): English-language remake of Japanese cult hit about a house with a curse which consumes everyone who encounters it.

THE INCREDIBLES (U): Brilliant Pixar animation about a family of superheroes who come out of retirement to help save the world - again.

LEMONY SNICKETT'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS (PG): Unusual and refreshingly unseasonal family film about a group of children who discover their uncle is trying to bump them off in order to get his hands on their inheritance

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (15): Intelligent thriller about a soldier who realises that he and his former platoon have been brainwashed for sinister purposes.

THE POLAR EXPRESS (U): Animated movie using motion capture technology about a Christmas journey, which is best suited to younger children.

SHARK TALE (U): When a shark dies in an accident a young fish, Oscar, takes credit for killing him, catapulting him to celebrity status but getting shark mobsters on his back in the process.

TAXI (12A): Hollywood remake of the hit French film about a cop who teams up with a taxi driver and her customised cab to catch some crooks.
