Two teams from Winchester City Penguins were among the seven sides vying for the Salisbury Christmas Trophy, with the Penguins A team winning the event convincingly.
The team camaraderie was at a high with the A team rarely finishing out of the top three - and when they did the B team ensured they had a swimmer in the top three! Penguins finished first and second in the boys' open 100 backstroke, boys' open 100 breaststroke and the U16 boys' 100 breaststroke.
The A team took the lead halfway through the gala and then proceeded to extend their lead to a comfortable margin of nearly 30 points with some magnificent swims.
Individual swimmers who came in first included James Whelan, Alison Longman, Simon Harling, Simon Mooney, Sophie Jenkins, Clare Wills, Eleanor Selby, Louisa Warwick, Leanne Whelan, Rebecca Meads, Colin Bennet and Alex Ward.
Clean sweeps in both the freestyle and medley relays were achieved by the U14 girls (Louisa Warwick, Fenella Langridge, Eleanor Selby, Sophie Jenkins); U16 girls (Sarah Kemp, Leanne Whelan, Alison Longman, Kim Jenkins) and U16 boys (Scott Taylor, James Whelan, Simon Harling, Lewis Dunford)
Result: Winchester A 301, Hamble 284, Salisbury A 258, Winchester B 173, New Milton 144, Salisbury B 109, Pewsey 78.
