POLICE are hunting two men who ran off after a road accident which left a woman with serious injuries.
The 28-year-old woman was taken to hospital following the accident between two cars on the eastbound Bursledon Road, near the junction with Orpen Road.
Both vehicles are believed to have been travelling in the same direction on the A3024 when the accident happened, at about 6.20pm yesterday.
The woman, who was the sole occupant of a blue Peugeot 206, had to be cut out of the vehicle at the scene by firefighters. She was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital where she is being treated for injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
The other vehicle, a green Jaguar, ended up partially in a tree and on a fence.
The occupants - believed to be two males - were seen running away from the scene.
The road was closed following the incident and was expected to be reopened by about midnight.
A police spokesman said detectives were keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the accident.
"We are deeply concerned about anyone who can run off leaving someone in these circumstances," he said.
