JEFF JAMES won the Southampton singles Town Championship in 1988, the same year that Alex Dunkley was born.

And this year the Sarisbury Social pair teamed up for the doubles competition.

James, now 60, and Dunkley are through to the last eight after beating Ken Jones and Sid Reid at Churchill's club in Eastleigh 2-1 in a tight game which the youngster finished off with a 58 break.

Still saving the best to last, Dunkley stroked in a fine 96 in the last frame of the day to beat Ryan Mears 3-0 in week seven of the £900 Under-21 Roll Up at Chandler's ford Snooker Club.

The pair are now joint fifth in the rankings.

There was a record 26 entries for the last competition before Christmas which attracted entries from Aldershot, Portsmouth as well as Southampton and included a rare but welcome visit from England International Mike Finn, who reached the semis.

Colden Common's Stewart Crosswell, 17, achieved a personal best break of 80 in the first round but lost out to Billy Castle, 12, from Marchwood, who holds onto fourth spot after losing to Mears in the other semi.

The top three all lost in the first round but Dan Hildyard remains top losing to Nick Jennings, 13, in the plate final. Jennings climbs to second above Mark McLean.

The "A" team of Arran Newman, Nick Jennings, Dan Hildyard and Peter Maraziotis traveled to Aldershot for the latest Cuestars event, which attracted 19 four-man teams and walked away with the trophies for the third time this season.

The lads are now second to Swindon Jesters in the rankings with one competition to go.

Jason Hildyard, 12, had his best result ever in a Cuestars senior event reaching the last 16 at Salisbury and walking off with £10 - while brother Dan, 14, pocketed £30 for winning the Plate competition.

The Fair Oak pair were quick to reimburse 43-year-old dad Steve his petrol money.
