A BUDDING New Milton boxer was left seething after his second professional bout was turned into an exhibition on Sunday night.

Danny Goode, 24, was due to box Peter Dunn in Bethnal Green, only for his plans to be scuppered minutes before the bell. Before he outclassed his new opponent Jaz Malik, the light-middleweight had to watch as his friend Freddie Luke beat Dunn on points.

Goode said: "I was all ready to go and five minutes before the fight I was told I had to fight an exhibition.

"Malik was supposed to be fighting Freddie but got scared, so the bill changed and I had to box him."

Goode was confident of beating Dunn, ranked 29th in Britain, but was left frustrated as he was told to go easy on Malik.

The young fighter said: "I went easy for the first two rounds but was so annoyed that I let him have it after that.

"I had to treat it like a proper fight to get anything out of it."

Goode also wanted to put on a show for his loyal fans that had travelled up from the south coast to watch him.

He said: "They paid to watch me so they were going to get their money's worth."

Malik's unwillingness to fight has since been reported to Robert Smith, Southern Area Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control.

Smith said: "It is not uncommon for bouts to be changed at the last minute.

"But I am aware of Sunday night's events and we are holding a full investigation."

Goode must now prepare to entertain his home fans in his next bout on February 6.

He will be on Jack Bishop's card, at Southampton Guildhall, topped by the return of Colin Kenna.
