CAPTAIN Guy Shoesmith led his Hampshire PGA professionals to victory over the county assistants in the annual Jack Wells Challenge Match at Hockley.

Shoesmith and his partner Steve Richardson laid down a barrage of birdies to run out comfortable victors in their match against Corhampton's Matt Tryhorn and Meon Valley's Simon Pink.

It set the trend and further wins followed from Jon le Roux & Scott Watson and Rob Edwards & Eddie Rawlings, the professionals finally emerging victors by four matches to two.

The only crumb of comfort for the assistants was victory for South Winchester's Jon Barnes and his partner Kevin Saunders (Dibden) in their match against home pro Gary Stubbington and Brokenhurst Manor's Bruce Parker.

The annual match was being played for a fifth time and victory for the professionals' team saw them regain the trophy they last won in 2001. Former HPGA secretary Jack Wells was there to present the trophy to Shoesmith.
