If you are driving this Christmas, the only safe drink to have is a soft one, says Hampshire County Council.
It has launched its festive anti-drink-drive campaign with Hampshire Ambulance Service and Gale's Brewery, and is reinforcing the message that drinking and driving don't mix.
Police say that in almost 700 road accidents in Hampshire over the past three years alcohol was a contributory factor. The campaign aims to encourage designated drivers to steer clear of alcohol over the festive period with complimentary soft drinks at all Gale's pubs.
Keith Estlin, executive county councillor for the environment, said: "Unfortunately, there are still people who think they can judge their 'safe' drink-driving limit. They can't because there's no such thing.
"The only way to guarantee you're under the limit is to steer completely clear of alcohol if you're driving.
"Is a pint of beer or a gin and tonic really worth risking a minimum 12-month driving ban? - not to mention the fact you could injure or kill yourself or others.
"I'd urge everyone to take road safety seriously this festive season, and don't drink and drive."
