PENTON Mewsey baby Freya Cousins turned out to be an early Christmas delivery - she was born in the car en route to hospital.

A frantic dash to hospital by parents Tim and Victoria failed to stop Freya venturing into the world in a car parked on a Winchester street, three miles short of the city's Royal County Hospital.

Dad Tim managed to stay calm enough to safely deliver Freya in the family's Peugeot estate car.

Although she was due on 26 November, Freya's hasty arrival began when Victoria's waters broke at 9.30pm on 23 November.

Tim said: "We wanted Freya to be an Andover baby but were due to have her at Winchester because there were complications at the birth of our first child Finley.

"When Vic's waters broke, we took our time and got everything together, went out to the car and set off at a sedate pace."

The couple had just passed Winchester's Winnall Trading Estate at 11.30pm when baby Freya decided she couldn't wait a second longer. "After asking Tim to go faster, I said 'I'm going to burst. I'm having this baby now'," Victoria said.
