PLANS to bring a mains gas supply to Ludgershall could be scuppered by villagers' apathy after they failed to respond to a survey.
At the moment most of the village is without gas. The supply ends on the Tidworth side of the railway bridge. When the new bridge was built, the developers, Wiltshire County Council, had the foresight to include a duct to carry a gas supply across the railway line to supply most of the community which at present has to rely on solid fuel, oil or container gas.
But when a gas infrastructure company sent a mailshot to villagers explaining the proposal to install a network they had the poorest response ever, councillors heard.
