It's Christmas time - goodwill to all men. Forget that!

Believe it and you had better steer clear of Gosport Park tomorrow afternoon when bitter London Division Two South rivals Portsmouth and Gosport clash.

When Portsmouth make the short hop across the harbour to their neighbouring peninsula, there will be no festive frolics.

The Black and Ambers are bent on completing the double over troubled hosts desperately needing points to avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation mire.

Gosport are one place above the relegation line, points difference all that is keeping their heads above water after a disastrous run of six straight defeats, but Portsmouth's record at Dolphin Crescent is not the best - and the home side will want that to continue.

A big crowd is expected for a Christmas derby that sees the possible return of skipper Simon Burns to the Gosport front row after he dislocated his shoulder in the defeat against Camborne three weeks ago.

He is only rated "fifty-fifty" by coach Sean Fanning but Gosport need him back to help stop the losing run. Navy trio James Barnes, James Wagstaffe and winger Richard Neve all return to the back division.

Portsmouth have the influential James Pegler back at number eight while Alex Dyer comes in for the holidaying Neil Styles at full-back. Hampshire Under-18 youngster Dan Neville is on the replacements bench.

Knowing the importance of the game, Fanning promises to field "a very different side."

He said: "Pompey is going to be hard because the lads have to lift themselves after what they all know was a disappointing performance last week. But with them leading the table, we must be underdogs again but these derby games are special and we will be up for it."

In National Division Three South, Havant need to turn in a winning home performance to keep their head above the table's congested lower echelons when they receive Westcombe Park, the side one place below them.

It is in the front row yet again where the Hooks Lane outfit have most problems, with Paddy Conlon unlikely to make the game and Dave Harrity still sitting out with a broken thumb. Stuart Ingram goes under the knife later today.

Player-coach Owen Cobbe is likely to return and there could be a first start for South African Ryan O'Shaughnessy.

At least the visitors will be without one of their major playmakers in fly-half Gert deKock, suspended for two months by the RFU for spitting at a Southend player a fortnight ago.

Director of rugby Adam King wants his side to show more consistency; otherwise they will slide dramatically into danger.

"We wanted 30 points by Christmas and, if we get five tomorrow, we will have 29. But we quite simply have to win this home game.

"We have never beaten Westcombe in the league so tomorrow would be a good time."
