Lymington & New Milton's flying full-back Pete Smith admits he is finding the speculation surrounding his future "frustrating."

The 19-year-old has turned in a series of exhilarating performances for the Fawcett's Field side this season and his eye-catching displays have seen him linked with a number of Football League clubs, writes James Morton.

Both Cardiff City and Cheltenham Town have contacted Linnets chairman John Mills with regard to Smith, while AFC Bournemouth and Portsmouth are understood to have watched the promising youngster.

But no one has yet followed up with a firm approach.

Smith insists he is happy at Lymington for now, but admits he is yearning for the chance to prove himself at a higher level.

He said: "I just want someone to invite me along for a trial so they can have a look at me. I just want to be given the chance and if they turn around and say 'no' after that, then fair enough.

"I've not heard anything from Bournemouth, but Cardiff have probably been the most disappointing. They came and watched me in the Hampshire Senior Cup game against Basingstoke and seemed really interested. But Robbo (Linnets boss Ian Robinson) has chased them and no one has come back to us. I can see why clubs might be reluctant because of my size but, as Robbo said, I can build myself up. It is frustrating and does get me down as I want to make the next step."

In-form Linnets entertain Andover tomorrow looking to extend their run of ten wins and a draw from their last 11 Wessex League games.
