TEENAGER James Lawson scored twice as Fareham climbed to fourth spot in South Premier League, Division 2, rounding off a promising pre-Christmas run with a 6-4 win at Staines.
It was Fareham's fifth win in the last seven weeks and lifted the Bath Lane club above the mid-table pack.
"Brighton & Hove and Sevenoaks are teams laced with quality overseas players and won't be caught, but if we can maintain our push in the new year, I've every confidence we can do something next season," smiled Fareham coach Nigel Cook.
Cook's side certainly experienced a roller-coaster first half in the Staines fog, with the influential Craig Peel setting up Lawson's opener and then scoring a second goal himself.
"Despite some top goalkeeping from Mike Irving, Staines came back at us and were level 2-2 at half-time," Cook explained.
Steve Lemon restored Fareham's lead - but minutes later contrived to put through his own goal and bring Staines back on level terms.
But there was no way back for Staines when Fareham hit them with a three-goal second half blast.
Jim Moseley made it 4-3 after a crisp move between Dave Cousins, Scott Shirley and Lawson, and then Shirley attoned for the previous week's penalty misss by sending Fareham 5-3 up from a flick.
Lawson bagged Fareham's sixth before Staines pulled a fourth goal back from a late penalty corner.
