ATHERLEY and Banister Park are on collision course in the Yetton Trophy after virtually identical second-round results in this English Women's Indoor BA major club championship.
Atherley overcame Arun 82-70 while Banister Park put out Riverside 81-70. The winners now clash on Thursday, January 6.
Pat Sutton's rink topped the Atherley scorechart when beating April Janman 24-15 at Southampton.
It outweighed the 24-18 defeat suffered by Joan Penfold, alongside her against Wendy Adams.
Atherley, however, reigned supreme in Sussex where Jackie Mainwaring (20-15 against Ann Briault) and Wendy Line (20-15 against Iris Smith) both won.
Banister Park won in similar vein by taking three rinks. Hazel Tardif (19-13 against Pam Gilmour) and Midge Pitter (18-13 against Maureen Kenway) were rock solid at Stoneham Lane and they were reinforced by the 25-11 runaway win of Val Dibben against Janet Williamson at Winchester.
Riverside's consolation was the 22-19 verdict achieved by Chris Doig on her home carpet against Kay Prebble.
Palmerston tumbled out of the Yetton Plate 92-64 after losing all four rinks to Havant. Viv Bramble (21-18 against Mary Coles) came closest for Palmerston but there were heavier defeats for Ann Broadhurst (22-14 against Iris Maidment), Joyce Bradlaugh (23-15 against Molly Duffin) and Rose King (26-17 against Cynthia Stephens).
Havant now play Victory, who squeezed past Isle of Wight 80-74. Eileen Wilkins (26-15 against Kath Patrick) and Pauline Proud (20-14 against Sandy Pullin) were successful for the Islanders but their wins were outweighed by the defeats of Margaret Wallace (24-17 to Joan Wilson) and Auriol Ash (27-11 to June Roberts).
Atherley also overcame Arun 41-31 to reach the zone final of the Mason Trophy, the national over-60s' double rink championship, both rinks being played at Bognor Regis.
Penfold gained the sweetest of revenge wins, teaming up with Jenny Loftus, Ella Dibble and Mainwaring to beat Adams 21-14.
Eileen Askell, Jean Roe, Margaret Darkin and Line (20-17) had a closer contest against Briault.
