Winchester was lit up with song and candles at a Festival of Light organised by city churches.
Mayor of Winchester Cecily Sutton, was present to give a speech and money raised from the festival went to her charities.
Representatives of city churches including St Lawrence, St Peter's RC, the United Church and Winchester Baptist Church were all present.
Candles and lanterns lit up the Buttercross and carol-singing rang through the High Street.
David Scott, of St Lawrence Church, said: "It went very well. There was a good turnout and we even had a donkey."
