1947: Born Poplar, March 2.
1964: March - Signs professional forms for West Ham following apprenticeship at Upton Park.
1965-71: Makes 149 League appearances for the Hammers, including three as sub, scoring five goals from his wing position during six-season career.
1972-75: Signs for Bournemouth in August 1972. Makes 101 league appearances, including five as sub, scoring five goals.
1976: September - Signs for Brentford, but makes just one appearance.
1982: September - Returns to Bournemouth as team coach.
1983: Takes over from Don Megson as manager of the Cherries.
1984: Club languish second from bottom in the old Division Three but manage to beat holders Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup at Dea Court.
1987: Guides Bournemouth to Division Three championship with a club record 97 points. The team includes ex-Saints Mark Whitlock and Dave Puckett. Current boss Sean O'Driscoll and ex-Pompey manager Tony Pulis are also in the squad. It is the first time the Cherries have ever played in the old Second Division.
1990: Only able to keep the Cherries in Division Two for three seasons as they are relegated.
1992: Leaves Bournemouth to return to West Ham as assistant manager to Billy Bonds.
Was in charge for 457 league matches at Bournemouth, winning 180 (39.3 per cent) and losing only 107
1993: West Ham promoted to the Premier League.
1994: Named as the Hammers' eighth manager in the club's history after Bonds resigns. Signs five-year contract.
1997: Signs John Hartson for club record fee of £3.2million from Arsenal - a move which pays off as Hartson weighs in with five goals to preserve the Hammers' Premiership status. They finish 14th.
1998: Acts as peacemaker after Hartson is caught on video kicking midfielder Eyal Berkovic in the face during training session. Hammers finish in their best Premiership position of eighth.
1999: Hammers beat last season's best by finishing fifth in the Premiership largely due to the form of Paolo di Canio, whom Redknapp signs for £1.7million from Sheffield Wednesday in January.
2000: Hammers finish season ninth but Redknapp forced to admit defeat in his battle to hold on to Rio Ferdinand, who moves to Leeds for a then British record £18million.
2001: Hammers struggle for much of the season despite Redknapp's promising midfield triumvirate of Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard. Hammers stave off threat of relegation with three weeks of the season remaining but, with the club 14th, Redknapp decides to quit.
During his time as Upton Park boss Redknapp won (37 per cent) and lost 121 matches out of 327 in charge.
June 21 - Appointed as director of football at Portsmouth.
2002: Almost five months after vowing to stick with Pompey, despite interest from Leicester, becomes manager at Fratton Park when Graham Rix is sacked.
2003: April - Leads Portsmouth to promotion to the Premiership after a 1-0 home win over Burnley. The result ends a 15-year absence from the top flight. Two weeks later Portsmouth seal the championship with a 3-2 win over Rotherham at Fratton Park.
2004: March - Signs a new deal to keep him at Fratton Park until 2006.
May 1 - Portsmouth's future in the Premiership is confirmed after a run of five wins and two draws in seven matches.
May 12 - Redknapp's future at the club plunged into doubt after relations breakdown with chairman Milan Mandaric over the issue of replacing assistant Jim Smith with a continental coach.
November 15 - Pompey announce Redknapp will remain manager despite appointment of Velimir Zajec as executive director.
November 24 - Resigns after winning 54 (46.5 per cent) of his 116 league matches in charge, losing just 36. In all, Redknapp has won 417 of his 900 league matches as a manager.
