AS TIME and perspectives shift so do Mercury Rev and their music.
Not a band to be taken for granted, Mercury Rev has created their own world and logic. As they have evolved, so has their music.
Founded in Buffalo, USA originally they were formed towards the end of the 80s by vocalist David Baker, and included guitarist Jonathan Donahue, guitar shaper and clarinettist Sean Mackowiak (Grasshopper), bassist and flutist Suzanne Thorpe, bass explorer Dave Fridmann and drummer Jimy Chambers.
Now as a post-indie/avant-garde band they have obtained a huge following both stateside, and in the UK. Probably better known for their breakthrough single in 2002 The Dark Is Rising - it was from here they began to show their versatility, and love of the stripped-down semi-acoustic feel for music.
With tracks such as Deserters Songs, All Is Dream, and their new single Secret For A Song the band will also be releasing their new album The Secret Migration early next year to coincide with their 2005 tour which will be coming to Southampton Guildhall on March 13
