A MUM accused of dumping her baby in Spain has spoken of her joy after finally returning to Hampshire with him.

Nicola Wren said she was "over the moon" to be reunited with six-month-old Hayden and to be back with her family in North Baddesley.

The 24-year-old and her former partner Nicholas Brown are alleged to have abandoned their then six-week-old son on a balcony at their apartment block near Torremolinos during what police described as a blazing, drunken row.

The child was found in the early hours of the morning by a Spanish holidaymaker who thought he had heard a cat mewing. He was rushed to a first-aid clinic in the resort before being taken into care by the Spanish authorities. Both parents were eventually bailed pending their court case and remained in Spain, while Nicola Wren's mother and sister fought to bring Hayden home to England.

After her sister Rachael was granted temporary custody of the infant, Nicola Wren flew home to England with Hayden on Saturday.

"There are no words to explain what it is like being back with him," said Nicola. "It is brilliant. I didn't think I would see this day come. It was really horrible in Spain because I was only allowed to spend one hour with him each week. It broke my heart every time I had to leave him.

"When this all first happened I was devastated. Then when I was able to see him again I was over the moon but it was horrible having to leave him.

Nicola Wren is still waiting for a date for her court case and must sign in at the Spanish courts twice a month.

"Now that Hayden is home I don't want to stay in Spain so I will fly over there and come back the next day," she said.
