FAWLEY grabbed a vital win in their scrap for survival with a 15-5 success at fellow strugglers Lytchett Minster.

Fawley have two wins but only two points following their points deduction earlier in the campaign and are still four short of the safety line - but are full of confidence coming into a festive period.

It was crucial they went to Dorset and picked up the win and they did just that with Phil Martin taking the easy penalty early on and then following a quick break on their own 22, Steve Eaton and Wayne Cleary produced the perfect try in the corner.

In a physical encounter, Lytchett refused to lie down and replied with a score of their own before the break but Fawley looked like they wanted it more after the interval and steady progress allowed veteran winger Tim Parsons over in the corner.

The side they are chasing down are Fordingbridge, who have slipped dangerously close to problems after a 47-7 defeat at improving Ventnor. With just one regular first team player in the front five, the Foresters were considering forfeiting the game with uncontested scrums.

Ellingham & Ringwood held onto second spot despite going down 17-10 to leaders Aldershot & Fleet.

The visitors took an early lead before Rob Crocker replied on the half hour but A&F added ten points in the second half. But, from a line-out, prop Allen Gilbert spun off to score.
