SOUTHAMPTON Saints suffered a day of disaster at Winchester City yesterday.
Not only were they trounced 5-0 by arch-rivals Portsmouth FC Ladies in the Women's FA Cup third round, but they suffered a catalogue of injuries.
Play was delayed for 15 minutes when striker Anne Marie Collins broke her leg, Gemma Woodford hurt her knee, Vicky Vickery got a facial injury and Martine Dade took a painful kick on the foot.
Saints were a goal down inside three minutes through Michelle Niven before Katie Poore (penalty), Lucy Keil and Stacy Niven (2) piled on the punishment.
Because of the injuries, Saints had to play the last 18 minutes with ten players.
But there were no excuses from manager Sue Lopez, who said: "Portsmouth deserved their win. They were so much more competitive than we were.
"Nerves got to us a bit, but we didn't show enough pride or team spirit and that doesn't impress me much."
