BASEMENT battlers Fawley turned the Division 2 table on its head at the weekend when they beat championship-chasers Locks Heath 2-1 at Long Lane.

The Oilers, with only one win all season, doubled their tally thanks to two first half strikes by Luke Atkinson who was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick with two further efforts that hit the 'Heath woodwork.

"We've not been playing that bad but we did play very well today," beamed Fawley boss and former Saint Kev Dawtry whose very young side contained two 15-year-olds, two aged 16 and a 17-year-old.

"We made it difficult for them by playing with five at the back but we created more chances as well. Luke Atkinson has made a big difference since coming back," added Dawtry.

Atkinson netted his opener after 15 minutes when he latched onto Ben Murphy's through ball to round the keeper and score before adding a second from the penalty spot ten minutes later following a handball.

John Whitfield pulled a goal back for the visitors on 88 minutes but the Oilers held on for a priceless victory.

"All credit to them, there's no sour grapes on my part," added Locks Heath boss Matt Parr.

The result means that leaders Lymington Town move four points clear at the summit after four second-half goals earned them a 4-0 verdict at Aldermaston, Phil Stone (2), Scott Metcalfe and a Matt Rosier header doing the business for John Pyatt's side.

Third-placed Poole Town narrow the gap on nearest rivals Locks Heath to four points following their 4-1 awayday victory at Brading Town.

On 48 minutes, Michael White opened the scoring for the Dolphins with Gary Funnell bursting through the middle to make it 2-0 in the 75th minute.

After 83 minutes, Aaron Turner lashed home a superb 25-yard shot and, sixty seconds later, substitute Ali Harris netted a fourth after Funnell had seen his spot-kick parried by the keeper.

The Islanders grabbed their consolation in injury time.

Blackfield & Langley followed up their 4-1 midweek success at neighbours Fawley with another 4-1 scoreline at Whitchurch.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Steve Hartley headed the Watersiders level on 55 minutes and then Robbie Morant nodded them in front.

Morant notched his second with another close-range header after the keeper had spilled the ball on 75 minutes and he completed his hat-trick five minutes from time.

Ringwood's Carl Fleet was another hat-trick hero as Ringwood buried Bishop's Waltham Town 5-1, Steve Geary and substitute Sam Yates also netting.

Doubles by Phil Anderson and Dean Cole plus one from Joel Matthews saw Alresford triumph 5-3 away at Amesbury Town.
