MORE than 20 youngsters went on a charity Christmas shopping spree this week - to pick up presents for Southampton's needy children.
Pupils at Gregg School in Cutbush Lane were climbing aboard the Daily Echo-backed Christmas Toy Appeal, organised by Southampton Voluntary Services - and they've urged other schools to do the same.
Around six thousand children in the city, including young carers, disabled and sick youngsters and families hit by poverty, will be receiving a brand new present this Christmas thanks to the appeal.
It's the 25th year it has run in Southampton - and organisers are hoping it will be bigger than ever.
The Gregg School shopping trip, to Woolworths and the Early Learning Centre, will mean 22 children will receive an extra gift on December 25.
Cash to buy the goodies was raised by pupils, who have joined in the festive appeal for the last four years.
Prefect Natasha Maffioletti, 15, said: "We raised the money with non-uniform days and then I helped decide what to buy. It's been a lot of fun getting involved, and it's basically a good thing to do."
She and teacher Annalise Adam urged other city schools to climb on board this year's milestone jubilee appeal, and make Christmas extra special for Southampton youngsters.
