A WOMAN from Andover is staging a special Christmas shopping evening in the Guildhall in Andover on Thursday, 9 December to raise funds for the Andover birthing centre at the War Memorial Hospital.
Mother of two Donna Bell had her two children, Jessica, aged five and Holly, aged two, at the centre and she wants to help ensure the facility continues.
"The money that we raise will be used to help update the birthing suite," said Donna, who is 26, and training to be a beautician.
"I really appreciated having the centre available for me in Andover and would not have been happy if I had had to travel to Basingstoke or Salisbury."
The centre was under threat of closure in the 1990s and was only saved following a spirited campaign by local people to keep it open.
