WORKERS at Isle of Wight engineering giant GKN Aerospace are pictured above celebrating completing a £62m aeroplane parts contract.

The firm, which employs 700 people on the Island, has just delivered its 200th tail cone for the most successful regional aircraft in history, the Bombardier CRJ.

GKN, the world's leading independent supplier of composite aircraft structures, has been manufacturing tail cones for the CRJ700, an example of which is shown right, since the contract was first awarded eight years ago.

The advanced titanium tail cone enables the aircraft to maximise the area of its passenger bay, and is manufactured on the Island, as well as the plane's doors.
