THE London Mozart Players are joined by trombonist Christian Lindberg at The Anvil this Friday, conducted by Vernon Handley.
The concert begins at 7.45pm with the vigorous and dynamic Sinfonietta by Moeran, a contemporary of Holst and Bax, whose music conductor Vernon Handley has championed.
Trombone virtuoso Christian Lindberg will then bring his special brand of musical communication to his own transcription of Mozart's famous Horn Concerto, and then possibly the first Trombone Concerto ever written, an elegant three-movement piece by the composer's father.
The closing work is Beethoven's magnificent Eroica Symphony.
The emotional heart of the piece is the famous funeral march, and it finishes with a set of variations on a simple tune that overflow with ideas and imagination.
Christian Lindberg has been a pioneer of work for the trombone. He has had more than 80 trombone concertos dedicated to him by some of the most prominent composers of our time and has made in excess of 60 solo recordings.
He was recently voted to be among the five best brass players of the whole 20th century and is now one of the most sought-after instrumental soloists.
Vernon Handley has twice been a winner of the Gramophone Record of the Year, as well as twice runner-up and nominated eight times.
At the Gramophone Awards of 2003, he was given a special award for services to British music.
Tickets, priced from £13.50 to £29.50, are available from the box office on 01256 844244, online at www.theanvil.org.uk or by using the ticket fax on 01256 366900.
