BISHOPSTOKE Parish Council is calling for Eastleigh's parking attendants to enforce no waiting restrictions outside the village's Stoke Park Junior School in Underwood Road and Stoke Park Infant School in Abbotsbury Road.

Members of the village authority welcomed the recent transfer of responsibility for parking enforcement from the police to Eastleigh Council.

Now they want the council's attendants to be "frequently visible" when children are going to or leaving school in a bid to ensure motorists do not park on the zig-zag keep clear markings. They see the move as a way of improving the safety of the school children during the busy dropping off and pick-up times.

The parish council has also welcomed a move by the borough council to reduce damage to roadside verges by controlling vehicle parking on grass verges in Stoke Park Road, Fair Oak Road, Old Fair Oak Road and Underwood Road.

Parish clerk Peter Storey said: "Councillors were particularly keen to see these rules enforced to protect the verges."
