Rumours that Dean Holdsworth and Ian Baird have been lined up as Havant & Waterlooville's next managers have been dismissed as "utter rubbish" by secretary Trevor Brock.

Although he admits it is not beyond the realms of possibility that former Premiership striker Holdsworth, pictured left, and ex-Saint Baird could be successors to the sacked Dave Leworthy, Brock insists that nothing has been decided ahead of tonight's board meeting at Westleigh Park.

"People are just putting two and two together and making 67," smiled Brock. "I can't speak for the other board members but, personally, I'd be stunned if we didn't advertise the job.

"There's nothing ruled in and nothing ruled out at the moment. For the last ten or 15 years Havant have always appointed from within, but maybe we'll go the other way this time. If we did advertise it, I'd be interested to see what comes out the woodwork."

It was two inspired substitutions from caretaker boss Shaun Gale, pictured right, that stamped Hawks' passage through to the FA Trophy third round with a 2-1 home win over Grantham Town on Saturday.

With the Conference South hosts trailing to a 24th-minute Adam Sturgess goal and showing no real sign of getting back into the tie, Gale introduced fit-again striker Gavin Holligan and ex-Arsenal and Wimbledon wideman Michael Gordon.

The effect was devastating as Holligan unsettled the Grantham defence with his pace and Gordon's trickery set up both goals.

First he crossed for Holdsworth to net a simple-tap-in on 61 minutes and then, with four minutes of normal time remaining, Gordon weaved past two defenders and played a superb through ball for the suspiciously offside-looking Holdsworth to run on and score.

Brock confessed: "In the end we deserved it, but for a lot of the game we looked second best. Maybe this is the turning point of our season."
