A TEST Valley councillor has called for the removal of a recently installed traffic island in Enham Alamein.
Cllr Len Gates has written to Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council claiming that the island - installed by developers as part of a traffic calming/road safety scheme - is unsuitable and unacceptable to residents.
He says it has restricted the access to properties on Newbury Road in Enham Alamein and is an obstacle to agricultural vehicles passing through the village.
Pavements have been narrowed and dropped on either side of the road making them unsafe for wheelchairs which is unacceptable in a village with a high proportion of disabled residents.
Lighting and road marking is incomplete making this island a hazard after dark.
