SOME of Great Britain's brightest tennis talent will be in action in Southampton this weekend, starting today.

They will be playing at the Southampton Indoor Tennis Centre at David Lloyd Leisure in Frogmore Lane, Nursling, which is hosting the men's Group 2A weekend of the county championship.

Entry is free and players will include the likes of former US Open junior champion and world junior number one Jamie Delgado as well Miles Kasiri, below, who this year almost became the first Briton since 1962 to win junior Wimbledon.

Kisiri, 18, has spent time training with the famous Nick Bollettieri academy in Florida - a place that helped develop the talents of Andre Agassi and Monica Seles.

He will be representing Kent against teams from Berkshire, Yorkshire and Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Delgado, 26, who is rated number five in Britain and just outside the world's top 200 will be leading Berkshire's challenge.

Yorkshire look like fielding a particularly strong team with 23-year-old national number six Jonathan Marray, who picked up two wins at the Queens tournament this year, being backed up by Andrew Banks.

The referee for the weekend is Jane Harvey, who has umpired the Wimbledon Ladies' final.

Southampton Indoor Tennis Centre, meanwhile, was overwhelmed with the response to its recent open day.

The centre received over 150 children and adults through its doors, all there to learn how to play tennis for free.

Alison Illman, ITC Manager, said: "We were so pleased with the response to the open day, particularly with so many children trying tennis for the first time. We are already looking forward to planning another open day for early next year."

The open day involved free coaching sessions, multi activity kids zone and lots of fun team games.
